Yuzefin Oak

Have you ever hugged trees? Welcome to Yuzefin, this very special, wonderfully charming area that has a magnificent "Yuzefin Oak", an old English oak (Quercus robur) close to the Yuzefin female monastery. Known as “The Patriarch,” this majestic, 1300-year-old tree is considered to be a talisman as the locals believe that this old tree protects them. Five people can hardly grip this mighty oak, a unique mixture of nature`s forest masterpiece and historical heritage. "Yuzefin Oak" is one of the oldest trees in the country. That`s why it was listed in the "Ukrainian Book of Records".

Yuzefin Oak is a natural treasure, historical heritage and pride of Rokytne Raion (district).

The territory of the botanical nature monument that named "Józefinska dacha" where this giant grows, is very picturesque. The remains of the old manor are combined with a huge array of centenary oaks. There are also weimuth pines, the birthplace of which is North America, tall centuries-old spruce, hazel... The natural boundaries are still preserved as a magical island among the sprawling marshes of Zagoryn .

Wicked by the winds of the centuries, tempered by rains, storms, evil lightnings, stands the Oak Patriarch in the middle of the forest with a chunky old man. It was after one such lightning that struck the oak-giant June 28, 1997 and cut the thickness of the branch, cutting the bark of the tree right up to the ground, scientists have determined the age of the revered oak. Mighty trunk of the oldest oak - more than 8 meters, diameter at an altitude of 1.3 m - 2.9 meters. The height of the tree reaches 20 meters. If it were not for the green crown in the highness, it would seem that it was a steep rock. But not... The stone is cold. Oak, having absorbed the power of the earth, gives the palms heat.

According to local legends, Józefinsky oak is a witness of the campaigns of the Kiev Prince Igor 945, and therefore has the nickname “Oak of Prince Igor”. In the ХХ century, naturalists confirmed this legend, determining the age of Józefinski oak - 1000 years, due to which it was included in the list of Natural Wonders of Ukraine.

The oldest tree of Polesie, became the second in the nomination “Historical Tree of Ukraine” of the All-Ukrainian competition “National Tree of Ukraine”.

People say it's hard for you — hug the oak. You don't believe it? So you should check it. This is one of the energetically strongest trees. The older, the more heals. Oak is a kind of tree conductor that connects human with world and cosmos. Therefore, if a person makes contact with this tree, it will give her such forces that will prolong not only life, but also have a beneficial effect on the fate of both children and grandchildren, up to the fifth generation. To get from the oak a share of its strength, you need to walk more often in oak groves, if possible, use items from oak in your home. Never break, do not chop the oak just like that, for fun. Remember that oak loves people ambitious and energetic and can not tolerate those who constantly whine.

Also in the village Hlynne there is a belief that oak helps in the birth rate of children. Therefore, marrying young people on the day of their wedding must necessarily hug the oak. Maybe because of this village Hlynne ranks first in Europe for the birth of children.

Józefinska Dacha is a botanical nature monument of national importance. This is a site of oak plantations. There are trees aged 300-400 years, individual specimens even up to 1000 years. There are several old spruce and exotic species, in particular Weymouth pine. Undergrowth form high (up to 7-8 m) bushes hazel. The digestive cover is dominated by typical forest species: European wild ginger, fragrant marelka.

Visiting here you will also be able to walk through the territory of the former estate of Mr. Jozef, where many old trees have been preserved. Local people say that it is from his name comes and the name of the tract - Józefinskoe, Józefin or Józefinska dacha. Now there is no trace left of the buildings built in the middle of the forest. The only evidence that there was a “dacha”, is only a small pond the entire bottom of which is laid out with oak logs. Probably, some young lady, bathing, did not want to spoil the silted bottom of her caressed white legs, so they arranged a pond. What happened wint buildings which were on that place, it wasn't succeeded to learn. To tell the truth., the nuns of the monastery of the Tver Icon of the Mother of God, erected seven years ago in the Józefinski boundary-line, say that to their monastery came to pray once from Rivne some elderly man and had with him old photographs depicting a group of Polish masters against the background Józefinski dacha. However, the monks do not have any information about who he is or where he comes from.

Another of the monument of this area is the ancient Slavyanski burial mounds in the boundary-line Józefin. Hlynnov burial mounds of XI - XIII century - community cemetery of Kievan Rus. It is located 6 kilometers north of the village of Hlynne in the boundary-line of Józefin 600 meters east of the convent of the Tver Icon of the Mother of God. It covers an area of 120 by 50 meters, stretched from east to west. There are 28 burial mounds. The burial grounds are located in the forest, on a small sandy hill, 5 km west of the river. Ствиги. His research was carried out in 1980.

Have you seen black birches? It is by giving preference to our route that you can see them with your own eyes, take a picture in memory, hear legends from local residents, because such luxurious birches can not be seen everywhere.

Another historical landmark of the village Hlynne are stone hewn crosses, which are located on the outskirts of the village. Their appearance is most connected with the Cossack-peasant performances led by Severyn Nalyvaiko, because it is known that in the spring of 1595 the rebels led by Severin Nalyvaik led the attack on Lutsk, and then led to Mohyliv to raise the Belarusian and Polish peasantry. Nobleman F.E.Vlashevskoho noted campaign rebels led by Severin Nalyvaiko in Belarus says that “... from there he went even more furious to Polissya, up to Petrikovich, so arbitrarily doing everything around.." When the Polish king once again declared the “Polish-Lithuanian movement”, then the Lithuanian hetman Radzivil was called to help. We can assume that the army moved to Nalyvaiko Belarus through Hlynne and Poznan. Due to those lands belonged Radzivil, it is possible that it was here that there was a clash with the Poles. For a long time people found here the remains of Cossack weapons, horseshoes, cradles, things of everyday life. As a witness of tragic events and left to rise on the hill Cossack crosses.”
